[Discussion] TestFlight Public Beta Links V2

EDIT: I'm really baffled as to why there are people downvoting this. You're only preventing other people on the sub-reddit from seeing this by doing so. Think about other people who have been looking for some of these links for months before you downvote this post for zero reason.

New Thread for y'all!

Here are the TestFlight links I have come across so far. I will update this continually as I find more and as you guys post more. Happy testing!

Tip: Use Ctrl+F to find links to your favorite applications quicker

If you like what you see, feel free to Venmo me! I just graduated college and will have to start paying back loans soon, so anything is extremely appreciated. Feel free to send me your username too, if you want a shoutout on this post!

Venmo: MichaelBertolino

Old Post: https://www.reddit.com/iOSBeta/comments/9so4u8/discussion_testflight_public_beta_links/

Update #1: Added column for the people who wanted to know when new links were added. You're welcome.
Update #1.5: I will remove the links after every tenth link that is added, so make sure to check the list daily!

Update #2: Since this list is becoming a lot bigger, I'm adding a column for apps that I endorse (whether I like them or not) or have on my phone, so that people can find better quality apps quicker.

Raspberry Pi Home Dashboard

I had a few requests of my home dashboard, and wanted to share with everyone how I put it together.
What you'll need:
Step 1: Instructions to Set Up the Raspberry Pi Itself:
Step 2: Set up the HTML File to Display
/home/pi/html
  1. Background.png
  2. Dashboard.html
  3. News.html
  4. Map.html
  5. Stocks.html
  6. ToDo.html
  7. Weather.html
  8. Calendar.html
FINAL Comments. This project probably took me 1h to set up the pi. And 4ish hours stumbling around to get the dashboard set up. My only real outlay was a monitor mount and a new monitor. Best of luck!
EDIT Here is the link for the current version of the dashboard. I removed the traffic for the weekend, but this is the dashboard. I have some formatting I really want to do (headings et al), but this should be a decent start. I have also included the color scheme I used.

Hello OnePageX! The Most Rapid And User-Friendly Exchange Ever.

Crypto ecosystem has been booming since Bitcoin’s arrival in 2009, today we have a developed market, and a technology which has endured a decade of intensive testing. Many pessimists stated that Blockchain Technology will not be able to withstand the hardships of the market, but even after crypto prices crashing on 2018 the number of new crypto ventures has increased tremendously. In presence of this vibrant environment, there is no surprise that the competition between different services providers in the crypto ecosystem is increasing by the day, therefore polishing the characteristics of each service and improving the user experience they provide. Since we have a vast diversity of cryptocurrencies (at the time of writing this article there are +2100 different cryptos listed on coinmarketcap), the core service of the crypto sphere is freely exchanging between the huge number of cryptos that exist today. Swapping between different cryptos should be as easy as loading a new tab in your web browser and as secure as transferring your funds in a traditional bank. Many have tried to provide a service that doesn’t fall short of the expectations of crypto investors, but most of then have failed badly. Current exchanges services lack of three vital characteristics that prevent them from fully satisfying its users: First, the many steps and the personal information needed to fill a Know Your Customer (a.k.a. KYC) verification badly harms users privacy and trading user experience. Second, most exchanges have a limited portfolio of cryptocurrencies for users to chose from. When you take a look at how many interesting and promising crypto-related projects are created, the lack of intuitive and easy to use platforms for users to readily get the tokens from such potential successful projects hinders the development of the crypto ecosystem. Third, in order to outpace the current centralized system we need to offer a more user-friendly crypto-platform for users to readily jump in. Since crypto ecosystem are fairly complex, nontech-savvy users have struggled to get smooth experiences and are quickly discouraged to onboard this awesome new opportunity that crypto has provided to us all. The gigantic number of possibilities when choosing among the hundreds of different cryptos for investing opportunities. But, multiple altcoins creates a burden that we all have been bearing for many years. Since many altcoins strived to offer a better set of features for users, each one of them took a different approach to the technical elements when they created their platforms. This diversity created a wider offer of unique characteristics on each new crypto, but interoperability and cross-chain integration were sacrificed creating hundreds of isolated crypto ecosystems. Thereafter, we have been forced to rely on third parties (a.k.a. exchanges) to handle our trades between different cryptocurrencies. Besides, exchanges have requested personal information from users, thus limiting users privacy. Moreover, they have been attack-vectors for continuous hacking and fund theft. Exchanges have suffered loses by 980,000 BTC, this is around $5 billion at current prices. How can we expect crypto to go mainstream if these weaknesses on the overall of the crypto ecosystem are still unaddressed? The fear to lose have been always greater than the joy for gains. Until a more reliable system is created cryptos will be constrained to a bunch of chilled tech-savvy enthusiasts that know how to handle the hardships that newbies suffer when onboarding into the crypto ecosystem. A solution for a private, user-friendly, and reliable exchange mechanism is required, a platform that allows users to enjoy all the privacy, simplicity, and security that current monetary system offers. OnePageX is creating such a platform and it is going to change for the better the way we exchange our cryptos. OnePageX knows better! They have a platform that works just in one page, hence its name One Page Exchange (OnePageX). OnePageX does not require users to sign on their platform, they have created the simplest exchange platform on the world! OnePageX vision is to provide a unique service that prevents users from wasting their time and protect their privacy. Even more, OnePageX service provide the widest BTC pair option for users to easily exchange their BTC to the altcoin of their preference. Crypto Trade In Three Steps 1. Select the desired crypto to start your exchange from. I am very satisfied since OnePageX already offers support for EOS, Steem, Ethereum and Bitcoin. They have other options and they have stated that they will not stop adding more. Then you chose what crypto you will want to receive. 2. Add the address where you want to receive the funds, you could add a tag or memo, and finally click on the Start Exchange Label. 3. A tab containig the URL with the “session” that records your transaction and a card with its status will be created The card will be updated to keep track of the status of the transaction. The exchange is done as soon as the deposit is confirmed, the confirmation time depends on the Bitcoin Blockchain. OnePageX Transaction fees A sensible fee of 0.5% plus some network fees will be charged, all the fees are included on the estimated balances displayed when creating the exchange card.
What do the status messages on the exchange card mean
0 of X confirmations The deposit is still unconfirmed on the Blockchain and OnePageX has not received the funds yet. Samuel is totally engaged with crypto, thus he accepts a few as a form of payment in all his stores. Linda, a young Mexican tourist, visits one of his stores. She really likes the merchandise on Frank’s stores and she wants to buy a lot to gift it as presents for her relatives when she cames back to Mexico. She already has spent most of her dollars and she only has Bitshares and Steem. When she tries to pay with her bitshares Samuel’s employee is unable to accept her payment because he only has Bitcoin, Ethereum, and LiteCoin wallets. The situation is a loss for all parties, Danna left the store empty-handed and Samuel loses the opportunity to sell merchandise worth several hundreds of dollars in one sell. When Samuel is informed about this he feels frustrated and immediately goes to his laptop to find a solution. While googling user-friendly exchanges he reads several posts on Steemit about an exchange service that will create a new paradigm! He finds OnePageX and he feels like he was blessed with the perfect service for his retailer stores. He immediately has his employees learn in just ten minutes who to make exchanges on OnePageX so they can give proper attention to all customers. AMA with trade.io CEO (part 3)

AMA with trade.io’s CEO (Part 3)

Posted by Xalat on July 13, 2018
Tokens Listing
Q: Which coins will be listed on the exchange initially?
A: Initially it will be the basic, big coins, but then we will roll out a ton after, especially ERC20. Have a bunch of listings and ICO clients that will come out quickly as well. So at start:
BTC — Bitcoin BCH — Bitcoin Cash ETH- Ethereum LTC — Litecoin TIO — TradeToken
USDT — May be available right at launch or at the very least within 2–3 days following launch.
ERC20 — we are looking at rolling out maybe 200 as soon as possible, but priority is on listing clients and ICO clients.
EOS and XRP soon.
Q: When will the exchange support FIAT?
A: Soon, there is no regulatory issue, just want to scale into features.
Q: Will we have any kind of voting system for new coin listings? Can you tell us anything about your plans on how new listings will be done? Would TIO owners have any privileges over others?
A: We are not looking to limit coins by any means, just need a controlled process to roll them out.
Regulations and Jurisdictions
Q: Can you speak on the progress with regards to regulations in the various jurisdictions? Which jurisdictions is trade.io currently focusing on, or which is top priority at the moment?
A: Working on HK, Singapore, Switzerland, Malta right now as the bigger ones. Smaller ones as well. We are meeting with regulators in the US as well.
Q: Are u also considering India?
A: India is unclear as to regulations right now.
Q: Will trade.io move to comply with the SEC and other regulatory bodies worldwide as they ask for information on customer protections, etc?
A: Already started, meetings already happening. We will do what we can to eliminate insider trading, wash trading, bots, fake volumes, all the bad things that hurt customers and plague other exchanges.
Roadmap
Q: When is the new Road-map being published?
A: After exchange and LP launches.
LP
Q: When will the LP fully launch? After 30 days of exchange? And the profit of the LP will count from the 1st day of exchange launch?
A: There is only a full version of LP, there is no beta version of LP. Profit starts immediately, LP will launch after 30 days i.e. profits start from next week at launch of the exchange. ICO consultancy revenues will be included regardless when exchange launches.
Q: Will there be something which tells the day’s profit with detail for transparency before LP launch?
A: There will be a LP distribution amount widget, but not promising that before LP launch.
Q: How much can we expect from LP daily payouts in the first month? Nothing at all? Something more than current airdrops program? Or much more than current airdrops?
A: The exchange needs to ramp and generate volume, then the LP will have meaningful distributions.
Q: There were some thoughts that the running costs would eat up the revenues that was already generated from consultancy arm that would left very few to be distributed. Could you tell us this is not the case? And in general, costs to be subtracted from LP is only direct costs that affects it, could you confirm that as well?
A: You mean operations? No that is covered from our 50%.
TIO Token
Q: After the exchange has been launched, how is the price movement of TIO expected to react? Do you not have any estimation for it?
A: Impossible to know, however, we are actively exploring moving TIO to exclusively be traded on trade.io exchange and de-list from other exchanges, for more control over price manipulation.
Q: What’s the solution in the future to avoid something like Bitforex?
A: They picked us up on their own. It is impossible to prevent a supposed decentralized exchange from listing TIO
Q: What measures will be taken to boost the trading volume of TIO token after launch of exchange. With the LP, the volume might be very low as it is today?
A: If you look at the token economics of TIO, it is designed to be more like a Berkshire Hathaway than a high volume penny stock. The goal is to drive value, not volume. The more value we create, and with low float, this will be good for price.
Q: Will TIO be trade-able with other commodities listed under FX Primus ?
A: Most likely not, as its a crypto asset so it will be traded against other cryptos.
trade.io Exchange
Q: What is the ETA for decentralized exchange?
A: There is no ETA at this time, we’re fully focused on making sure we have a flawless centralized exchange and execute on the liquidity pool.
Q: Will trade.io offer margin trading?
A: We will. Working with risk management to get it structured.
Q: What about futures and options?
A: Talking to some vendors specifically about this as possible partners.
Q: Will trade.io have algo trading?
A: Talking to a partner on that currently as well
Q: Why limit the launch to just 1000 initially?
A: The limitation to 1000 is not really for technology reasons, its more to allow customer support to get feet under them before we pummel them. It’s 1000 on Day 1, looking to open up to many thousands, within only a few days following launch. There is no level of training that can prepare support/finance, etc. once live users come through the door. This is not our first rodeo with running brokerages, so we understand its a completely different ballgame once the bright lights are on.
Q: What about Blossom wallet?
A: That wallet is under development, which makes it easier to participate in ICOs, have KYC, etc.
Q: Are MEW or other wallets going to be integrated in such a way as to make it possible to be able to participate in the LP without having them on the exchange? If this is actually possible that is. Will Private Keys be made available to the holders of the wallets in trade.io?
A: Not sure on security on that. May be part of hybrid DEX solution. Also, transaction fees would be high, since every transaction would be recorded on BC, cant really use ledger. Not ideal overall.
Q: Will trade.io place their own buy and sell orders to maintain liquidity?
A: We will keep risk low initially, but over time us and outside (institutional) providers will be doing this.
Partnerships
Q: What are the plans with FX Primus?
A: The current initiative with FXP, is to accept TIO as a deposit method, then eventually allow TIO to be traded on the platform.
Q: Are there any updates on the Angel Investors Program? What roles do Kosmos, Plutus VC and Blockway Capital play in the Angels Investors Program?
A: We are sending them deals to look at where they know we already did KYC, took a first pass, etc. They are also bring us deals to look at as well.
Security
Q: Can u please tell us about the security measures taken for exchange. As these days many exchanges are being hacked even the so called best exchange i.e. Binance , Bancor etc.
A: We have in-house, outside team, Cloudflare, Fireeye, etc. To elaborate, virtually all client assets are kept in cold storage as well.
Q: Are there plans to provide insurance against hacking? If wallets get hacked is it guaranteed that owners will get all their tokens back? One suggestion is that part of the undistributed funds from the LP (due to tiers with percentages less than 100%) can be used to offer such insurance, If necessary…if not, could be retained by the company …Security is obviously of the utmost importance especially if trade.io is targeting institutional investors. This insurance would bring extra peace of mind.
A: We are looking for answers on that, so I like the suggestion. Nothing definitive yet. We will explore insurance and other things, but same answer for all of crypto, there is nothing like FDIC yet.

3 Free Bitcoin Direct Payment Processors for Webmasters

This is an automatic summary, original reduced by 80%.
There are countless Bitcoin payment processing services, applications, and plugins to enable websites to accept bitcoin payments for goods and services.
Website payment processors tell e-commerce programs like a merchant shop or a sales widget when a payment has been successfully received so that the goods or services can be released to the customer.
Processors for accepting bitcoin payments have different features than fiat processors.
Below are three direct Bitcoin payment processors available today for free that can do the job described above.
Bitcoin Payments is a free and simple WordPress plugin that is powerful enough to generate custom addresses and QR codes but it has not been updated in over 2 years and may have compatibility issues when used with more recent versions of WordPress.
What do you think of these bitcoin payment processors? Let us know in the comments section below.

Using Mycelium Widgets As Payment Method

I'm trying to set up Mycelium Widgets to sell things in an online store and I am having trouble making multiple widgets each with their own product.
I created a widget for a product and it works. I can use the [mycelium_gear] tag to call this widget on a wordpress page.
But when I try to create a new widget, it says that the public key has already been used in the first widget.
Why can't multiple products use the same public key/bitcoin address?
Does each product widget need its own bitcoin address? That doesn't make sense.
How do I call each particular instance of a widget on a certain page?
When I look in the Wordpress Plugin it just says to use [mycelium_gear] to call the widget. How would it know which product widget to display using this tag?
Thanks for any help on this matter. The documentation is a bit sparse.
edit: Perhaps this will help. Paging Rassah . :)

[Repost] How to accept Dogecoin with your business, and why. A few pointers.

The original version of this post (see here), cannot be replied to anymore because it has been automatically archived. I am reposting it so I can keep updating and receiving questions on it. Enjoy :)
You are a business owner and sell goods or services. You heard about Dogecoin. You wonder how you can use it in your business. This thread is for you.
If you have no idea what Dogecoin is, read up on it here (click). In short, it is a digital currency that is perfect for everyday use. Read on if you want to know why it would be good for your enterprise.
Why should I accept payments in Dogecoin?
Dogecoin offers you:
Dogecoin can be exchanged to national currencies. You can do this easily by yourself or use the automatic conversion offered by some payment processors (all is explained further down). You can also just keep your Dogecoin and spend it or offer it to your employees! :)
Dogecoin is fun and it gets ever more useful the more people like you use and accept it. There are other merchants who have gone this path before you - not least Amazon's streaming service Twitch.tv. You can read interviews in this magazine and on this blog. You can also talk with other merchants in /dogevendors, check out these testimonials ([1, 2], 3), search this subreddit and post any questions you have right here!
I want to accept donations. What are my options?
Just download the client and put up the wallet address up on your page with donation info. Done! That's it! If you want something snazzy, check out this widget.
If you need to track who sent you how much money (for goodies and that), you could ask that donators tell you that they're sending you a very specific amount of coins (e.g. 100.424242), and match it to their name. However, this can be abused as your transaction history is public. If you're actually selling stuff, check out the next section instead.
I sell stuff online. What are my options?
You have a lot! It boils down to one of these:
The last option can be interesting if you don't have your own web store, are selling digital goods and/or are just selling on as a side business. If your business is your main income, handling payment yourself is probably better.
1) Manually processing transactions
All you need for this is a Dogecoin wallet. You simply generate a payment address for each of your customers, send it to them and confirm that your coins arrived at the address. This is super fast to set up and there is absolutely no commitment.
If you just want to try it out before investing a lot of effort, just set up a wallet (either with the Dogecoin desktop client or an online wallet (listed under Browser "here") and let your customers know that they can now pay with Dogecoin. You can use some of these buttons if you wish( 1 2 3 4 5) and browse this asset repository of useful artwork. The graphical interface is still being developed, but you can browse the files and find license information already :)
2) Automatically processing transactions
Check out the section on APIs and payment processors further down!
3) Selling stuff through a 3rd-party site
There are a number of sites that function a lot like eBay, Etsy and Xmart. You enter your products and they handle the payment and web store stuff. This is most convenient if you have digital goods to sell (music, books...) and want to send them out automatically.
If you are an Etsy user who wants to accept Dogecoin, click here.
I sell from a physical store or location. What are my options?
All you need is an internet connection in your store and a web-capable device, such as a mobile phone, cheap tablet or a nearby PC. On-site, your customers can send you coins using their phone, or you can sell coupons for your goods online in advance.
DogePos is a point-of-sales app that is open source and Koupah announced that they will accept Doge as well. You can use or apply for all of these tools right now! Either way, all you need is a way to 1) convert a USD price into Doge, and to 2) check that the coins have arrived in your wallet.
To check your wallet balance and Doge prices, you can use the app MyDOGE oniPhones and iPads, and this app on Android devices. This is one of many useful price converter websites you can bookmark. Checking your balance on the PC can be done with the wallet client.
If you want to sell your goods or coupons for them online, it might be easiest use a ready-made stores capable of digital distribution. Check point "3)" in the above section for some options.
Dogecoin payment processors, APIs, checkouts
Currently, the established platforms accepting Dogecoin seem to be these:
I'm trying a tentative summary here to save you some research, but I'd appreciate comments a lot. None of the three have setup or monthly fees (except some optional subscriptions).
GoCoin:
Snapcard:
Coinpayments:
You can probably find people who have used one of these in this thread. This guy volunteered his code for automatic currency conversion and his help setting up the plugin for OpenCart, for example!
If you are tech-inclined, you could run your own payment server with dogecoind and an API like this. This is not yet ready for laypeople though, so don't do that unless you want to get messy.
Exchanging Doge to USD/EUGBP/other national currencies
If you don't have your payment processor do it for you, at some point you will want to get your Doge converted to your currency of choice, which you should do at an exchange. Keep in mind that you will have to get registered and verified at the exchange, which can take up to a week.
Transfers to and from national currency can take a few days, but trading and transferring digital currencies is very fast and usually near-instant. The following exchanges let you trade your Doge for national currency directly (last updated Sep 17):
If your currency is not listed above, you can either sell your Doge here, or exchange them to Bitcoin and then sell those. You can sell Doge for BTC on all of the exchanges mentioned above, or choose one from this list. To sell BTC for national currency, you can also go to Justcoin or LocalBitcoins. There are many similar sites - just pick the one you like best!
Things get developed incredibly fast and Dogecoin is not even a year old. This will only get easier, so keep checking back! Justcoin is looking to trade Dogecoin to national currency, and others are sure to follow.
Alright! How do I promote my business now that I accept Dogecoin?
Note that there's a collection of Dogecoin artwork and assets for you to use in this repository, complete with license information so you can design your promotions and website with it.
1) Submit your business to these directories:
2) If you are a brick-and-mortar store, mark your business on these maps [1, 2]. Post if you have problems!
3) Make a promotion post in one of these subreddits:
You will get views, especially if you offer an interesting product or a Doge-related promotion. Hint: the best promotion is to offer a few % off for all Dogecoin purchases. Also post and comment to this just to discuss your plans and ask your questions. Come talk to us here and in /dogevendors, we are a fun community :)
I'm editing and updating this post regularly. The last big edit to this text was in Apr 2015 (new payment processors).

Questions Answers
Hey Matt, I was at your State of the Word in SF and you talked about moving WordPress more towards being an application framework rather than a CMS or blog platform. What specifically do you have in mind for this (better settings API, developer features, etc)? And then if you could break backwards compatibility (which really isn't a option for WP), what would you really like to completely redo or add to WordPress? Thanks! First and foremost the most important things for a platform are stability, speed, and security. To do those well you need the ability to push updates and fixes as close to real-time as possible. And it needs to work in every language. User authentication, data and caching abstraction.
A lot of what people think of as platform stuff is actually at the CMS layer -- custom post types, taxonomy meta,
If backwards compatibility wasn't a concern I would rename all the inconsistent column names and variables to match our style guide, drop TinyMCE, simplify the user roles and capabilities system, replace widgets with page blocks, redo the admin menu system, denormalize the DB, flatten dependencies and deep hierarchy in function execution, and completely reorganize the code so the bare minimum of files are included with any given request.
After reading questions from all of the nice, well-meaning people writing WordPress as "Wordpress", do you wish reddit would implement capital_P_dangit(\)? ;) Yes! If anyone from Reddit sees this, would super-duper appreciate if we could get /WordPress capitalized properly. I can send copious amounts of swag, bourbon, and BBQ if bribes are needed.
Looks like that already happened. My link works, but if you click the link in the header it takes you back to the lowercase P. Probably just a field in a database somewhere.
How is it going with Bitcoin ? Haven't looked recently, will see if I can pull some numbers. I wish I had bought some Bitcoins before we introduced it, though. :)
Any stats ? 94 successful transactions so far, pretty low. I think it's more important philosophically to support it than it's been beneficial from a business point of view.
If you could wave a magic wand and instantly rewrite WordPress in any programming language, which would it be? Go. :)
Do you ever think "I could have been tumblr" ? Just the opposite, I'm very glad we're not Tumblr.
Hi Matt, I'm a long time WordPress dev (since day 1 moreorless) so thanks very much for starting it. Just wondering what your opinion of Ghost is? Link to www.tryghost.org. Link to www.fastcolabs.com
They say or imply lots of things about WordPress that aren't true. They've also done things like had a quote from me looking like I was endorsing Ghost on their Kickstarter page even after I asked them to remove it several times. (Lots of people were confused or thought it was a plugin for WP.)
What do you think of Drupal 8 ? :) Some cool stuff in there! I also keep an eye on Joomla and Concrete5. I find it really fascinating to watch other open source projects especially because we share much of the same background and philosophy, but make radically different decisions around things like backward compatibility and release schedule.
It's like watching birds that evolved from the same ancestor but on isolated islands and environments. I'm sure we do things that look completely crazy to Drupal folks, and vice versa.
Along those lines I was asked to keynote at the Joomla World Conference in November and it looks like I'm going to be able to make it.
Why is hello dolly still a default plugin? Do you have any statistics about how many people actually activate/use it? Have you personally written any other plugins? Hello Dolly is actually the 13th most active plugin, with an active userbase of about 16% of Akismet (the most-activated plugin), and about a third as popular as Jetpack. It's ahead of W3 Total Cache! Again this is not just installations, it's currently active.
Some of the other plugins I've been involved with are here on my profile: Link to profiles.wordpress.org
They're obsolete but at the time I was proud of Advanced Caching, Staticize Reloaded, and Cache Images and the early and since-rewritten work on bbPress, HyperDB, and Akismet.
How directly involved are you in ongoing development of core? Are you relatively hands on, do you ever drive decision making or do you leave it to the community? Would love a wooden WP logo, as long as it's not a fauxgo. :)
On a completely different subject. I'm as involved in WordPress development as I was 10 years ago, it just manifests itself in ways that tend to be a lot more behind the scenes and less visible, which I don't mind as I'm way more interested in things moving forward and the results than credit or recognition for any specific thing. (I get plenty of recognition regardless, don't need more.) The only downside is that folks who I don't work with on a day-to-day basis assume that my role at Automattic or WP is more as a traveling figurehead or "evangelist" which can rub me the wrong way sometimes.
I met you at WordCamp Chicago this year (I told you about a widget plugin that turns them into a post type and such). For 3.8 I'm going to take a swing at the release lead role again, which should be fun.
I created these wooden WordPress logos with my 3D Printer, I meant to give you one but I forgot about it. You still want one? The most important thing I've done since WP started, though, isn't in a line of code or a feature people use, it's getting the right people involved and creating an environment for them to thrive. It's the single most important thing any founder can do, whether of an OS project, a non-profit, or a for-profit company even though there's not a single thing you can point to as the result of it other than the overall success and movement of the project.
What are your favorite/most powerful/most surprising implementations of WordPress? My favorite are when people I admire use it, from Jay Z to Zeldman. In many ways what we do like a canvas, and it's a huge honor to see the creativity and beauty people bring to it.
Of all the WordCamp's you've been to around the globe, what was the most unusual location for the event itself and, separately, the after party? Oh by far and away the strangest location was Davao in the Philippines. I can't find any pictures at the moment, but my talk was essentially at a restaurant with a swimming pool courtyard -- the audience was on the other side of the pool from me, and the food buffet was behind me so when the Q&A got slow people would grab food. The PA system had an echo because I think it was normally used for karaoke. And then the bats came out!
Best after-party is hard to pick, but I had a great time after WordCamp Las Vegas which aligned with my 25th birthday a few years ago.
The Philippines is a wacky place. Oh, my people :-) I loved it and had a great time, including at the one mentioned above. :)
Of all the WordPress community memes, which one is your favorite? Link to twitter.com is pretty funny, and some days I miss WP Wank.
Recently I enjoyed #thingswpdailywouldpost and the response: Link to torquemag.io
Pretty much anything Mike Adams (mdawaffe) sneaks into the code, be it easter eggs or Ghostbuster references.
Mark Jaquith had some pretty hilarious ones but I can't find them at the moment, maybe other folks could post their favorites too. :)
Automattic has a lot of side projects (Gravatar, PollDaddy, etc) - What's next? There's always a struggle between doing new things or experiments under a new brand -- like VaultPress -- vs putting it under an existing brand. A lot of the things I've been thinking about we're going to put under the Jetpack brand, for example Jetpack Photon (CDN + dynamic image resizing and filtering) could be a standalone product, but decided to bundle it. So keep an eye on some big things coming to Jetpack, especially for Code Poets, people who use WordPress professionally.
What would you like to see us do next?
What individual do you think is the most under recognized contributor to the WordPress community at large? That's a tough one... I'm going to say the volunteers on the support forums. There are 2M+ posts there, and it's easy to forget that a huge number of WP users end up in the forums and get help that allows them to use the software when they wouldn't otherwise be able to.
I remember seeing a WordPress yearly theme of "WordCamps and WordPress Meetups". What should be the next year's area of focus for the Community? What areas would you like to see beefed up in the Community? Some themes that I thought might be good are "Women in WordPress", "Contribution and Documentation", "WordPress Evangelism", "Adopt an old plugin" to name a few. How do you feel about these? Those are all good, if I had to pick one it'd be getting the documentation going better on WordPress.org -- handbooks, function reference, training materials / syllabuses, and doing it all in every language and for every plugin/theme.
Hey Matt, what was the most difficult thing for you in starting your business and what do you think is the most important thing you have to know and/or to learn when you found a startup? The hardest thing for me was taking responsibility for the lives and families of others, those first few hires especially. It's why I originally raised funding even though we had revenue already, and why since then we've always focused on making the business sustainable over decades, not just the next tech hype cycle.
What's the best meal you have ever eaten (and photographed)? Hands down: Eleven Madison Park in NYC.
Recently I had a really special libation tasting menu at The Aviary in Chicago, which is from Grant Achatz the chef of Alinea, it was a cool experience at a table in the kitchen.
I'm constantly amazed by the coordination and efficiency of professional kitchens, I'm mesmerized when I watch.
PHP has matured a lot in the last few years, with new tools such as Composer and new frameworks such as Laravel. The relationship between this side of the PHP community and WordPress seems to be pretty strained. Are there plans to address this relationship, particularly with the new focus on WordPress as a web app framework? I think the PHP and WP community are coming closer together, I know it's something that Nacin has been spending time on and we've had more presence at PHP-focused conferences.
Thoughts on forking WordPress, a la jQuery? (Link to eamann.com. I don't think forking as described there is a good idea.
Multiple content areas - probably the most important CMS feature not baked into core. Will it ever happen? There's something around multiple content areas that could be really interesting we're going to start working on this year, hopefully ready by early 2014.
What do you see as the biggest challenge facing WordPress (in the context of competitive software or just un-met customer needs) for the next year? By far and away it's the high attrition rate of new users. We look at posting a lot in that context but I think it's far more important to look at customization -- theme discovery and tweaking, widgets, menus.
Hello Matt, what is your opinion about current state of PHP in general? Do you like any particular framework? Templating engine? Thanks. I think it's pretty great, would just love to see continuing development around performance. Nothing really in the language that's holding us back. Wish it was trendier with younger devs.
Hey Matt, why did you force the rest of us to suffer through images defaulting to a link in our posts (I understand that was your doing)? Youthful indiscretion!
What is your development setup (software)? Most of my time these days is spent with people instead of code. (For better or worse. :)) I love lists, and live on Link to simplenote.com .
When I code since I switched to Mac in 2011 I use Coda 2 and SFTP to a remote server rather than a local dev environment. nano on the server.
Apache or nginx? Nginx!
I find WP so much more user-friendly than the competition. Was that a conscious decision from the outset? Was it hard work to make it that way or was it just the way you guys did things? Do you have a warehouse full of useability testers or does it just come naturally to you guys? The first few users were friends of mine who weren't into technology at all, so from the start we needed to make it work for regular people. As we grow it's mostly just a matter of reminding ourselves of that, sitting down with them to see how they use the software, and anticipating their needs.
If something in the future interests you enough to make WordPress/Automattic part-time for you, so you can take on something else or contribute to another cause, what might it be? I'm really fascinated by micro-electronics, hardware, and the "internet of things" for lack of a better term. It's surreal to be approaching an age that resembles the sci-fi I loved as a child.
That said, I can't imagine not working full-time on WordPress/Automattic, I feel too strongly about our mission, impact, and potential.

I see a lot of desperate web development companies locally that try to stress that Wordpress is insecure and shouldn't be used. What would be the best thing to say to people like that to shut them up? Some of the largest and most important publishers in the world rely on WordPress. (Show them the showcase.) If WordPress was insecure we'd see it on the front page of nytimes.com, wired.com, and cnn.com. :)
Hi Matt, have you read Chris Lema's blog post. What is your response? I have. It's also funny because I think Gartner is about to come out with a "magic quadrant" that puts us in the crappy quadrant (low vision and ability to execute). Their leaders? Adobe, Sitecore, SDL, Oracle, HP, Opentext...
I completely agree with Chris on all the ways that enterprise currently works, and their concerns. (People assume because we choose to do things differently that we don't understand the other side.) But I'm not willing to compromise getting better software into the hands of users as quickly as possible, if that means Gartner thinks we're a visionless niche player so be it.
We've done long-term support branches before, it was a big development burden and almost no one used it or cared. There will be businesses that embrace keeping their technology moving at the speed the web does, and there will be those that go out of business and become irrelevant.
•Will you ever support multiple languages in the WordPress core? No plans for multiple languages in core, sorry.
•What do you think of new writing platforms like Quip and Editorially? Will the WordPress post editor ever have any of those 'team' features? I really dig the new writing platforms, I do think we'll get some of those team features if not in core than in Jetpack.
I heard a rumor Matt switched back to QWERTY. True? Not true, still typing Dvorak, though last year I was beat on speed for the first time by Helen Hou-Sandi, who types QWERTY. She's speedy, and if she switched to Dvorak she could probably win world champs. :)
Hey Matt, where do you think the future of the independent WordPress news community lies, with your recent purchase of WPTavern and the recent sale of WP Daily to WP Engine? Do you think there is a space for an impartial WordPress news website? *edited for correct spelling! I'm glad that new ones are being started as fast as old ones are shutting down. There is some really interesting stuff going on in the community and I think there's space for real journalism and strong commentary.
What one major thing would you like to see changed/fixed/updated in WordPress core? The fact it doesn't work well on mobile devices.
How do I convince my boyfriend, who wants me to keep his site in ASP.NET (he's a programmer, I'm a designecoder), to install WordPress? I'm not even allowed to use PHP! :( The best way I've found to convince people, even as the founder, is just showing examples. That's why we created the showcase: Link to wordpress.org
Find out which musicians, celebs, authors, etc he writes and see which of them are on WordPress and bring it up casually in conversation. (We have huge adoption from creative folks.)
Best BBQ of all time? I hope I haven't had it yet. :)
Are open source contributions a prerequisite to work at Automattic? No, but they get you to the top of the list when we're reviewing applications. (I know, I look at every incoming resume.)
Would you consider Automattic the "Redhat of WordPress"? Without a doubt. ;)
Do you think an app store for plugin and themes built with high quality standards and framework, could be a good solution for WordPress end users? The plugin directory is an app store where everything is free.
Would having paid stuff there make it better? I don't think so.
Why do you feel thats different for themes - premium themes are available via the themes directory. (I've never bought one of those so I don't know if the comparison is valid) Design is inherently valuable in its scarcity, functionality is valuable in ubiquity.
It's unlikely that we'll ever want to put a popular theme into core, but fairly likely it'll happen for a popular plugin.
Collaboration is more important for plugins than themes, and money from scarcity balkanizes development.
Did you ever feel like you couldn't continue with your project? Is there any advice you have for small business startups? Covered advice here -- Link to www.reddit.com
There have absolutely been times I felt like I couldn't continue, both with Automattic and WordPress. You have to take the lows with the highs and stick with what you believe in.
Hi Matt, I have been using WordPress for 10 years, make most of my living from it, and will always love it. Thank you for that! It is by far the easiest way I have found to build websites that my clients find easy to use. I see the reasons why WordPress does not use more modern coding practices and tools and appreciate the need for backward compatibility, but wonder if you ever see the code base moving forward to a time when developers can use the newest features of PHP, best coding practices (i.e. testing), and the great tools that are available these days, like Composer. Do you think there will ever be some kind of fork or offshoot of WordPress that functions as an application development framework, since so many developers are using it for that these days? Thanks :) I disagree with the premise -- WordPress does use modern coding practices. People assume that supporting say an older version of PHP or MySQL holds us back far, far more than it actually causes any trouble. Supporting older browsers is a way bigger deal.
Our biggest challenge is figuring out the user side of things, the front-end code. How things should work for a user rather than how they should work for a computer.
What does your average day look like and how do you manage so many different projects? I spend more time on Skype (text chat with colleagues) than I would care to admit. Between that and P2s ( Link to p2theme.com ) I can easily fill eight hours in a day. As the company has grown to over 180 people there is a huge amount of content and activity to keep up with.
Hey Matt, how many hours you work on an average day? It's hard to say because I don't really consider what I do work, the hours just melt away.
I find I'm most productive first thing in the morning when I wake up, usually around 7am but a bit later if it's a cloudy morning, and I generally run out of steam around 11:30pm that night.
Some days I'm traveling though I might only have 4-5 hours at a computer and can get a similar amount done.
I find I'm generally more creatively charged the following day if I'm able to unplug at night, which is one reason I like jazz festivals (I try to go to Montreal every year) because I can work during the day and check out shows at night.
Any chance of a comment-spam filter being built into core? Akismet is great but has a lot of hurdles for a new user (Activation of the plugin, Registration on Wordpress.com, Registration for API key) and most just don't do it, contributing to the problem. I agree with Viper007Bond -- anything we did in core like Cookies for Comments would become completely ineffective within a day. Those only stop dumb bots who have easier places to spam.

off, love you, your ethos, your company. If you figure it out, let me know. :)
My question: how do you plan to get "normal" people to update their blogs as often as they do their Twitter and Tumblrs? But seriously, I think it's all about removing friction (every second loading and extraneous click) and becoming part of people's habits, which is one of the reason I spent a fair amount of time on triggers and habits at the State of the Word this year.
any plans to launch a Premium paid version of Photon service with more features? Not on features, we'll make anything new there free to everybody, but might have a paid tier for top 1% of users by bandwidth/usage. But probably a few years from that, plenty of bandwidth and CPU here in the meantime, and it's just getting cheaper and faster.
Find a new boyfriend maybe? His judgement is clearly lacking. Ha!
Which features are available on other CMS that you would like to see in WordPress? I really like some of the drag and drop layout things folks like Squarespace and Weebly do. I think we have so much we can do to improve customization.
Hi Matt ! I know you've advocated for water causes in the past. Do you have plans for future charitable/philanthropic projects? Thanks for doing this. My big contribution this year has been to the Bay Lights project: Link to thebaylights.org
Haven't decided about next year yet...
What do you think about App websites/themes that seem to be using WordPress as the choice of CMS, do you think WordPress is a good platform for these types of sites? Scaling, Performance issues considering? Examples, Dating sites, Crowdfunding sites, Job board, etc. I think it's a great framework for anything content-driven. For things like messaging that don't map well to WP's data model, you can still do it just make some new tables, don't try to shoehorn it in the standard ones.
Which verticals will you be tackling next with WordPress.com? Please share your sensitive corporate information ;) Putting a hold on new verticals at the moment, going to try and go deeper on some of the existing ones first.
Hi Matt, now as most people know, you are very much a fan of open source and the GPL license. However, is there anything you do NOT like about open source? Also besides Wordpress (or its themes/plugins), are there any open source projects you like that aren't related to Wordpress or Automattic? I think the things that make open source incredibly collaborative and ultimately eat the world can also make design and big shifts difficult. WordPress has made some major shifts over its decade of life and grew as a result, but those pivots are harder to do the more successful we are because sometimes it means doing the opposite of what we did to become successful in the first place.
Automattic's been tweeting a bunch of new hires lately, and quite frankly doing a great job of making me jealous. Has the 90% of employees being remote ever caused real problems or friction? And how do Happiness Engineers work: do they help people out over the phone, or is it strictly a text over the Internet thing? Remote distributed working has been working great and we plan to continue it for the foreseeable future. HEs mostly work with email, but we're introducing a ton more live chat and phone work.
Say you retired your involvement from WordPress, what other projects stimulate your interest and challenge you? I think for many of us, all good things come to an end and considering your success of WordPress, what other projects (offline or online) would benefit from your involvement? I think I got this one here -- Link to www.reddit.com
Have any companies ever tried sueing you over silly software patents? Yes.
Hey Matt, you talked about profitability on TWiST. How do you plan on increasing revenue at Automattic? (I'm especially interested in how open source projects like Wordpress could lead to profitable companies) Edit: (changed "profit" to "revenue") I think it largely looks like the things we're doing today, just executed better and with a wider audience aware of them.
Hi Matt, besides traveling and photography, what are some of your other non-WordPress interests? Pretty tame: Music, especially jazz and hip-hop (J Cole, Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar, Weeknd). Wearable tech. Vinyl records. Food (trying to cut down on this). Reading.
With growing popularity Wordpress has, in the past few years, become increasingly prone to hack attempts, brute force attacks, etc. Is there anything being done to address security concerns? I think we're a lot more secure than we were a few years ago, to be honest.
Hey Matt, I watched the live stream of your State of the Word on the weekend and you talked about leading development of WordPress 3.8 and that it would be "experimental". What kind of features do you have in mind? New interface with MP6, new theme with 2014, and hopefully some work on the editor and widgets.
As someone who's making a living thanks to the WordPress, this might be the only occasion for me to say Thank you Matt. You've truly changed my life. Thank you. :) Hug a WP contributor next time you meet one, there are hundreds of people active every day that are even more crucial to WordPress than me.
This is my personal favorite. ;) Edit: Whoops, imgur mirror so we don't kill ipstenu's site. That is indeed amazing. :)
Contribute. Agreed!
Sup Matt, Hit me with some Akismet stats. We're blocking 40-50 million more spam every day than we were last year. The volume of spam has been growing unusually fast.
Hi Matt, what do you think about this 400,000 Euro Site - :D. Link to www.carlabrunisarkozy.org. Link to www.connexionfrance.com. WordPress is priceless, so 400k euros isn't a bad deal, but they could shop around for a better consultant. :)

Reddit featured image for link post shows up blurry on iPhone.

I run a wordpress blog themerkle.com Ever since I switched to the new theme the images on reddit that show up when someone shares our articles are blurry when accessed through the mobile site.
I am not sure how to fix it but here is an example:
https://www.reddit.com/Bitcoin/comments/3upolx/agressive_stance_by_metro_bank_shows_why_bitcoin/?ref=share&ref_source=link
If you visit think link via an iPhone you will see the featured image is blurry. I am not sure why that is happening but its only happening on the mobile version of the site. Any help is appreciated.
SOLVED:
So here is the solution. Removing the below function in core.php removed the meta property which served a tiny thumbnail 85x85px to reddit as opposed to the original image.
facebook thumbnail image function it_facebook_image() { global $post; $image = wp_get_attachment_image_src( get_post_thumbnail_id( $post->ID ), 'widget-post' ); $out = ''; echo $out; }
